In Florida, a defendant can either be adjudicated of a crime or the Court can withhold adjudication, unless the law requires an adjudication for certain crimes. An adjudication means a conviction of the offense, meaning if the crime was a felony, the defendant loses the right to vote and bear arms (now being a convicted felon). The Court will usually withhold adjudication for first or second time offenses and very minor misdemeanors. An adjudication for a traffic ticket means points will be added to your driver’s record.
